Yorkshire legends The Cribs drop their sixth album ‘For All My Sisters’ on March 23rd. If you’re strapped for cash this weekend, here are some other great bands from their home-county to stay in and listen to.
If you’d said in 2011 that this funny band would get to number 4 in the US charts with a lead singer that sounds like he’s got a ferret down his kecks, we’d have knocked your pint out your hand. But they did. A victory for weird pop music.
There’s already some immensely popular bands from Sheffield. You know who they are and you’ve probably got all their albums, so get your lugs round these instead.
They might have only released their debut album last year, but for those of us that latched onto single ‘Council Flat Blues’ in 2011 it felt like a long time coming. It was great. It was loud.
The Birdman Rallies
Thankfully, not an ill-advised sequel to the Oscar winning film. Formed in Harrogate, they cobble together a rather sweet type of tropical pop. They’ve just released a record called Real River and are on tour in Yorkshire over the next couple months, go take a look.
With their 2002 self-titled debut album acting as a groove-focused counterpoint to the Libs/Strokes/Vines triumvirate, this band from Leeds found themselves at number 4 in the charts. Though they never quite got that far again, they jogged on until 2011 before bringing the curtain down on their career with two massive final shows in their home town.
