Carling Supports Sheffield saw over one hundred Yorkshire bands enter with hopes of being on the first bill at Carling Academy 2 Sheffield. Sixteen bands were chosen to perform at showcases in pubs and bars across Sheffield where they played to an independent panel of judges. The standards were high throughout with five top quality acts making it through to final the Showcase on Thursday 17th April.
Shot Dead, The Magi, Tiananmen, Vegas Child and Silent Film Project were thedeserving showcase finalists and rocked the 400 strong crowd at Carling Academy 2 Sheffield. Having over 400 fans turn up to an unsigned music showcase highlighted just how healthy the Sheffield music scene is right now and the quality of the acts playing on the night are giving everyone a reason to be excited about the new generation of budding acts bursting out of the area.
Vegas Child got the night going with a roaring set of punk-led rock, next upcame Silent Film Project whose happy pop set was a welcome break from the norm. The night then progressed from the rocking indie sounds of The Maji, through the heavy rock of Shot Dead and finally finishing on the polished metal of Tiananmen with each band playing their own different parts in an opening night to remember.
