Jon Grice

Spicey

Jon Kevin Grice can hardly be described as an ever present in the Hesketh Casuals All Stars. His career with the club has had many trials and tribulations; blighted by injuries, a year living away from Southport and not being able to play every weekend, an issue with overcooking it on the liquor on a Friday night prior to games and most recently sent out on a house renovation sabbatical. The majority of Jon's junior career was spent at YMCA; not known as the most successful of teams. However, team spirit was second to none with all home games being rounded off by the usual trip to Claudes Patisserie after the final whistle to pork up on pies and cream cakes. YMCA went through several managers over the years, the most notable being Dave Harrison and then finally the one and only Joe Vianella. Jon can still hear the cries from the sidelines of "one more push lads", and has often been known to shout this out towards the end of games when fatigue is kicking in with the lads.

Described by many as the Utility man, Jon has played everywhere across the pitch (apart from in goal) and can manage this with relative ease due to his natural talent and poise on the ball. Although not the quickest of players due to knee operations at a young age, Jon seems to have overcome his recent cramp problems, which have plagued his calf's over the past couple of years - writhing around on the floor in agony was becoming a bit of an embarrassment for Jon and his family.

More recently nicknamed the 'Team Drunk' before his sabbatical, Jon has embarked on a complete detox to return as a new streamlined operation. He has visions of a late return to the fold towards the end of the season and is encouraged by the recent cancellations, which will mean more games towards the end of the season.
