Mike Lloyd

Lloydy

"You only really appreciate you have been at the top, when your staring at it from down below later in life". Bob Mitchell 1998.

"When I first signed him and he walked into training I must admit I found him intoxicating, but hey! he had drank two litres of cider in botanic the night before before being sick on lol". Joe Vianella 1999.

Lloydy's champagne charlie lifestyle has endeared him to many and made him terrace folklore. Stuart Walker and Alistair Macgreggor remain avid followers of his career.

A less than impressive stint at football as a child at Southport Trinity with only a plastic runners up medal in the M & G Winddows cup gave Lloyd a harsh lesson in life. He pursued other avenues in sport even representing his county at Squash, but the lure of football remained. He once again signed for Trinity as a teenager and with a new found extra yard of pace and strength advantage against his peers (he peaked early) not available in his early youth Lloyd had arguably his finest football season at under 15's level. He inevitably shone in a poor team and put in towering performances to achieve John Porter 's Player of the Season. This rich vein of form ensured a few caps with Stanley and a few cheeky goals.

A brief stint at Argonaughts and a stunning scoring debut at YMCA was all that remained before the appeal of drink and related exploits inevitably took over at weekends. For a number of years a once well tuned machine became subjected to serious alcohol and calorie abuse. Naturally this took its toll both physically and mentally. Lloyd found himself relying on mock wrestling matches in his back garden as the only form of physical exercise during this period. Lloyd's only real football glory consisted of splitting a 15 quid pot with Greal in double cuppies around this time.

Whilst a student the world of amatuer football was light years away until the man of the moment Paul Hames opened up the door for adult football in Lancs Am post university. Lloyd realising the damage had been done meaning the athletic days where behind him has adapted his play replacing speed and finesse with combative qualities such as heading, pushing, jesting, tough tackling and grunting.

Playing sporadically through misfortune and injury early on at Cazzies B Lloyd is currently enjoying his most consistent spell at the club and dreams of getting more lay off's from Baz Fellowes on the edge of the area.
