David was one of Paul Hames proudest coups in the preseason of the 2004-2005 season when chief Player/Scout Andy Walker recommended the talented defender. Walker had played with Tomlinson at Stafford University and was more than familiar with his strengths and style of play. After Tomlinson displayed his obvious talent at a private trial session (playing double cuppies on Bankfield Lane) the Skelm-ite signed up without hesitation.
Ever since then Tomlinson has proved a thorn in opposition attackers and wingers side with his cool headed defensive duties. Tomlinson, who has played predominantly at left back can also do an effective job at centre back and has earned his nickname Football Icon for a reason.
Tomlinson has settled into the side blissfully and the standard of his play just keeps on improving. His main strength is his reading of the game and calmness in times of panic. Tomlinson recently scored his first competetive goal in the shirt of Hesketh Casuals B against Horwich RMI, after a goal drought of 26 years!
