Derek Sykes has had stints at Southport Trinity before joining Hesketh Casuals Reserves two years ago before switching alliances and joining the B team. Sykes was introduced into the side by his brother in law Paul Mushy Mullen towards the end of last season and has played a pivotal part ever since.
His early Cassies B days saw him play on the left hand side of midfield, paying the price of being left footed, before advancing into a centre forward position this season. Sykes, the most senior player in the squad, shows no sign of old age as his work rate is second to none in a team consisting of unfit individuals. Furthermore, Sykes vocal contribution and constant encouragement for the team have proven to be valuable attributes.
Sykes has been amongst the goals this season, all of which have been important, in particular his clinical strikes away to Thornleigh and Old Mancunians this season.
