Hellawell Shield Quarter Final

24th March, 2007

Bedians(B) 1 - 4 Old Stretfordians(C)

Old Stretforians C from Division E played away to Bedians B from Division D in the Hellawell Shield Quarter Final. The odds were very much tacked against Old Strets as Bedians were unbeaten in 18 weeks.

Twenty minutes into the first half, Strets, Mike Duckworth went around the Bedians keeper to finish of a well worked passing attack.

The remainder of the half was mostly played by Old Strets, as they came close on several occasions. They were rewarded five minutes before half time, when Duckworth again causing major problems for Bedians turned two defenders on the edge of the box and fired a strike passed the keeper in to the bottom corner to make it 2-0 to the vistors.

Straight from the whistle in the second half Strets were on the attack. Duckworth going deep in to Bedians half and squaring a ball back to the edge of the area, where Nick Burke made a run and pulled a shot out of the bag that any Premier Division player would have been proud of. The keeper had no chance.

Strets were now three up and flying. Both Bedians and Strets had a couple of chances in the second half with Bedians having a good shout for two penalties. Deep into the half and that man again, Duckworth, again pulled a quality piece individual work to make it four to Strets and a well deserved hat-trick for himself. A consolation for Beidans just before the end to make it 4-1 but by then the damage had already been done. Well done Strets C.
