8th June, 2008
This was a competitive game where both teams played some nice football. An attrocious penalty decision however put the game beyond Bobby's Bar early on. Bobby's started brightly creating the first chance of the game as McFerren ran down the right wing and inside but his shot was saved easily by the Keys keeper. Cross Keys then scored the opener as a rearranged Bobby's defence failed to defend the back post from a free kick and Keys scored an easy header.
The game turned against Bobby's soon after as Brown put in a last ditch challenge in the box clearly winning the ball. For some reason the referee gave a penalty and booked both Brown and Fitzpatrick for dissent. This was converted and it was 2-0. Soon after Keys got their first booking of the game for high feet despite the fact that the strikers foot wasn't even above knee height.
Cross Keys added to their tally as a shot squirmed underneath stand in keeper Davie Turner and into the net. Just after half time Keys went 4-0 up when Bobby's were caught short at the back and Turner was lobbed from outside the box. Bobby's Bar had several break aways cut short through poor offside calls, the worst being when Michael Duffy chipped the ball over the defence and then controlled with his chest only to be pulled back for being offside (for running on to his own pass!!!) Bobby's created plenty of chances with Gillan and Stanton firing high and wide respectively. They couldn't take any of these chances however until Leonard scored a free kick from distance to make it 4-1.
Cross Keys went down to ten men after a deliberate hand ball. In the last 15 minutes Bobby's pushed hard to make something of the game going 3 at the back and moving Brown into midfield. A handball in the box allowed John Stanton to convert a penalty and make it 4-2. After this Bobby's looked like they would score again but the ball narrowly missed the post on more than one occasion. Bobby's were then forced to take off Duffy who took a kick in the face after being fouled, and with their sole substitute already used Bobby's had to play on with ten men.
The game ended 4-2. This was Bobby's last league game of the season as for some reason the association has decided that they will not be playing their last two games against the Windy Ha and the Elms despite the fact this impacts on suspensions, the fair play trophy, the league's top goal scorer and the final league table. Bobby's do still have the Cross Keys Shield to look forward to and they can hopefully beat their first round opponents Bowery AFC.
