Early on there were no opportunities created for either side with most of the play restricted to the midfield. The scoring was opened when Bowery were awarded a penalty. The ball was crossed in from the right and appeared to hit Graham Walker on the shoulder but the referee pointed to the spot. A few minutes later Eddie McNab was sent off after a midair collision and Bobby's were down to ten. Despite this they held on and just before half time Iain Brown prodded home the equaliser at the back post from a corner. In the second half Bobby's began well and started to stretch the Bowery back line. John Stanton got on the end of a ball through and one on one with the keeper slotted home to give Bobby's the lead. Then from a corner the ball broke to Davie Strachan who volleyed into the back of the net from 18 yards. The second half was marred with a flurry of yellow cards and fouls and from one of the resulting freekicks Bobby's were punished when they failed to clear there lines properly and Bowery got one back. Bobby's 2 goal advantage was restored when the Bowery keeper was called into action and caught off his line. The loose ball was turned into the empty net by Shields from 35 yards to make the score 4-2. Bobby's almost scored from an identical situation minutes later but this time the goalie got back to save Mick Duffy's shot on the line.
