Injuries & UnderStaffing See Sacre Bleu Slump in League Opener

10th May, 2008

FT Sacre Bleu FC nil - 4 Scarborough Republic

With a total Squad of 11 men, Sacre Bleu FC took to the field at Aldergrove Park to face Scarborough Republic in the League Opening Friendly today.

The Bleus held their opponent in their own end for much of the 1st half. Player Coach, Drew Kellas missed 2 open nets as Forwards Andrew (Andy) Fulton & Andrew (Steady) Steadman found him on the left side.

The game took a turn for the worse when the linesman failed to signal a ball out of play allowing the Reps to get around defender Hal (Doc) Huff for the 1st goal of the game in the 40th minute.

The 2nd half turned tragic as Doc took a stud in the face and had to leave the game in the 48th minute. Huff would return in the 58th minute after stopping the bleeding but the damage was then done as the 10 man Bleus conceded a second goal. The Bleus chances were further dashed as Captain Kellas went off in the 61st minute with an ankle injury. Again reduced to 10 men, the bleus, who were facing a side with continuous fresh legs of 7 subs, conceded 2 more goals.

Having returned to the pitch in the 70th minute, Kellas provided the grit to regain control of play but the bleus were unable to capitalize on possession. Player/Manager, Marvin Afriyie received a yellow card for a late tackle in the 83rd Minute and that seemed to be the death nell for the game
