31st March, 2008
The only missing players for this weeks fixture were Andy Palombella and Claudio Jordan. Lorenzo Jordan, Michael Cooney, Dave Minney and Liam Boland all featured in this strange match,
The Offa Road team were playing good football and seemed to be moving the ball around a lot better than the Oak. However, the Oak took first blood with a goal within 2 minutes.
The Oak then struggled to gain any momentum, with the referee stopping play at every opportunity. Offa Road were winning every decision. . . even when a possible leg breaking tackle on Lorenzo Jordan went un noticed only for the referee to nearly send of Jordan for dissent.
Offa Road equalised just before half time and were looking the better side. Michael Cooney was introduced from the bench at half time but the Oak could still not find any rhythm and were getting more frustrated with the referees poor handling of the game.
5 minutes into the second half the Oak had a goal disallowed for a player being inside the box. Claudio Jordan questioned the referees decision and the referee blew his whistle and announced that the game had been abandoned on the grounds of foul and abusive language.
The furious Oak players surrounded the referee, as Claudio Jordan was not a registered player for this match and the team should not be punished for a 'supporters' reaction to a decision.
This was to no avail, and the announcement was made early on Tuesday Morning that the result had been given as a draw.
The Royal Oak remain top by one point and welcome the challenge of 3rd place Lock Stock Next week. With everything to play for now this game should be a cracker.
