HEROES TO ZEROS

17th February, 2008

BT take just 90 minutes to go from Heroes to Zeros after losing 5-2 to promotion rivals Walton Rovers.

Just how did they win 11-1 last week were the chants coming from the home fans on Walton Rec this morning.

BT looked a shadow of the team that thumped 11 past 405 last week. Capello opted against sticking with a winning formula, the self confessed "tinkerman" made 2 personel changes, with Guy and Colin dropping to the bench in place of Dixxie and Alan. The return of Big gay Al saw Lee moved from right back to centre mid, pushing Justin out wide. Whilst the surprise re-call for veteran keeper Dixxie saw Guy lose his shirt to Tom at centre back.

The game started slowly. Very slowly infact. The away side seemed to be in ore of the massive pitch, instead of using it to their advantage they opted instead to try and do everything through the middle. The first 30 minutes past with little excitment, Justin working hard upfront with very little show for it. Sean was finding space out wide and saw a cross come shot fly past the far post. A few easily cleared corners later and the score was still 0-0.

At this point Walton really started to get hold of the game, a break down the right hand side and a hopeful cross saw the returning Alan lose his man , leaving the left winger to play the ball past a stranded Dixxie.

It wasn't long before the lead was doubled, a long distance shot looping over dixxies head. 2-0.

At this point it became one way traffic. BT started to bicker amongst themseleves, everyone seemingly wanting to pass the buck rather than stand up and be counted.

Confusion in the defence saw Alan lose possession on the edge of the area, the left winger making no mistake to score his second of the game.

The 4th was scored in controvesial fashion, the referee calling Lee away from his defensive duties whilst also allowing Walton to play via a throw in. BT appealed in mass but the make-shift ref was having nothing to do with, allowing his side to go 4-0 in front.

At last, the first bit of football BT had played all half saw the ball switched from right to left. Greg doing well to beat the last man and score. Half time Walton Rover 4 - BT Research 1

After probably the most embarassing half time team talk I've ever whitnessed the team lined up we 3 new faces. Colin coming in at Left Wing for Sean. Gozzy dropping in left back with Greg switching to right wing. Guy also dropped into centre midfield with Lee taking Alan'place at right back.

The 2nd half strted brightly, a few half chances saw Justin and Guy go close. After yet another shocking corner Justin's battling spirit won us a penalty. The ref spotting his first foul of the game. Backhouse made no mistake from the spot. 4-2.

Rather than boosting BT's confidence the goal seemed to kick Walton into life. Before long it was backs against the wall with the linesman, the crossbar and a number of block tackles to thank for the score line not changing.

BT began to panic, balls being punted forward rather than passed. THe ref the awarded BT what seemed to be a dubious free kick on the edge of the area. The quick thinking of Alan Backhouse saw him take the free kick early, with the keeper beaten it looked to be a goal only to flash just past the post.

With BT tiring Walton counter attacked to make the Score 5-2. THE FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN.

The last few minutes were played out with BT's heads down and hands on hips. 3 points next week is now a must if they are going to become serious promotion contenders.
