It was the first home game in a while and BTRFC welcomed Ipswich United to the Raydon Stadium for the first time since a great 4 â€' 4 draw with them at the end of the previous season. The line-up :-

Subs:- Justin Hammond, Dave Gosling, Mick (where the hell was he ) Cracknell

Manager :- Sam (where the hell was he ) Goody

Caveat:- Cannot remember the sequence of the goals exactly but do I get the final score right (I think) …………. ENJOY!!

On an extremely blustery, wet and windy day with a ‘good to firm’ NOT pitch the game started with the wind directly in BTRFC’s face. Despite some galliant defending and much effort in midfield eventually the 1st goal went to IPS UTD with a well taken individual run through to goal. BTRFC continued to battle well in the appalling conditions with wind and mud in their faces through to half time where the score remained at IPS UTD 1 BTRFC 0. A tactical substitution saw the Silver Fox replaced by Dangerous Dave Gosling. With wind and rain on BTRFC’s backs the pressure started to tell on Ipswich UTD. BTRFC started to get more creative around the IPS UTD box. Next Ross Cracknell scores to make it 1-1 and celebrates with a dive through the centre circle (much to the annoyance of Guy (kitman for the day) Clubb. The promise at this point was that Ross C. would (if he scored another goal during the match) dive through the centre circle …………. this time on his head ………. a brave move given the status of the showers at the Raydon Stadium! Well……….. the goal came and 10 BTFRC players were chanting and pointing at the centre circle ………….. but where the heck was Rossi!! A short unexpected spell of sustained pressure from IPS UTD was rewarded when a chip from 20 yds was due to drop into Alan (between the Stix) Dix’s hands but the combination of mud wind rain defeated him to renew IPS UTD’s vigour. A short while later Graham stiff managed to receive the ball and welly it from the centre circle to score a fine goal only to be denied by the referee. Apparently the IPS UTD keeper had been preoccupied with one of the BTRFC ageing strikers taking a nap in his 6 yrd box!! Post match awards for dirtiest kit went jointly to Ross Cracknell and Justin Vman Vince. Slippery Eel awards went to Justin Vince, Ross Cracknell and Alan Backhouse for escaping without paying their subs (£22-00 dues beckons Mr Cracknell!). Sympathies go the Guy (big show) Clubb for the hours that are gonna be needed washing the kit. Sympathies to Graham Stiff for a goal scored from the half way line being denied! Notable performances from the midfield maestro Al Backhouse not letting the mud influence his tight ball work in the middle of the park. Guy Clubb’s relentless work challenging for every loose ball on the park (be afraid be very afraid!). Lee Clarke’s work rate on the right of midfield and telling long throws into the box, particularly 2nd half. Tireless workrate and nifty close footwork from Greg Ranson contributing to many attacks on the IPS UTD goal. Colin Goody managing yet another full game apart from the occasional nap in the opponents box! Alan (the silver fox) Goody had a good solid game at right back against difficult conditions in the first half Another solid game from Alan (between the stix) Dix still carrying a right arm injury from the somewhat interesting game against Copdock Exiles! Another committed performance from Tom Goody lapping up the soggy conditions. Not forgetting Vman’s outstanding work in the midfield throughout and still not getting upset when Dangerous Dave G provides him with a ball despite an IPS UTD player hanging over each of his shoulders. Ultimately a great team effort was rewarded with a 4-2 win and all performances should be congratulated! Man of the match :- Justin Hammond for his support and linesmanship during dreadful conditions at the Raydon Stadium.

i think dave gets my award for mentioning my right foot bullet!!! i will never kick a ball that straight with my right foot again!!! EVER.....
