Bolton Wyresdale 2-3 Hesketh Casuals
Cassies B ended their 300 minute goal drought in a thrilling encounter at bottom of the table Bolton. In appalling conditions, the away side tried to play some decent football and dictated play in the first half.
After Matt Valentine was involved in a car crash on the way, which he thankfully emerged unscathed, it was abvious Cassies were going to miss his presence. The formation saw centre back Neil MacGregor play up front in a 4-3-3 formation and Langton slipped in at centre half.
The first half saw Cassies creat numerous chances with Steve Aspin taking total control of the midfield and MacGregor looking threatening up front. MacGregor went close with a header from a corner which went just over and Aspin and Dave Walker also had a couple of attempts on target.
Cassies broke the deadlock when Andy Walker picked the ball up in his own half and skipped passed four players to drill a cross into the area. Neil MacGregor was on hand to direct and right footed shot through a crowded area into the net for his third of the season just before half time. Meanwhile the back four were solid and restricted Bolton to just one chance which was saved by Hames. Forshaw, Hames, Langton and Tomlinson were all outstanding at the back and never looked like letting the home side in.
The second half was a slightly different story with Cassies playing up the hill. The home side drew level when a weak shot from outside the area took a couple of deflections before creeping into the corner. Bolton took an undeserved lead when Cassies fell asleep and their striker bundled in the initial shot.
The frustration was there to see and manager Paul Hames demonstrated the veins in his temple in full fashion with an uncharacteristic outburst. Casuals did not panic and still played some excellent football and Steve Aspin capped a superb performance when he evaded two defenders and slammed a low shot into the bottom corner. With only minutes remaining Carl Forshaw slid a pass into Fellowes who pivoted and shot at the same time and buried a right-footed shot into the top corner. Cassies held on for the last 5 minutes to secure a much deserved and overdue three points.
There were so many fine performances including Steve Apsins tireless show, but Ian Langtons finest performance in a Cassies shirt secured the votes for man of the match.
