25th January, 2008
1. Who is the best player you have played with at Hesketh Casuals?
There's some cracking players I've played with and it's difficult to pick an individual but David Tomlinson at his best is unreal.
2. Who is the worst player you have played with at Hesketh Casuals?
Jay
3. What is the best goal you have scored for Hesketh Casuals?
My solitary strike in the last game of last season at Radcliffe away. Stand in keeper Neil MacGregor booted up field and injured striker Chris Hames flicked on to Matty Stevenson who lofted a pass over the pub landlord who was playing at the back. I raced clear and lobbed the keeper left footed from 25 yards. The memory has been tarnished by the fact that i was wearing Sky Sports sweat bands on my wrists.
4. What is the best thing about being Cassies manager?
Errrr.................................
5. What is the worst thing about being Cassies manager?
Having the game stopped coz the ref has spotted some dog dirt on the pitch and everyone looks at me for not picking it up earlier. Trying to persuade 14 mid twenty year olds to go for a drink after the game. It gets demoralisising after a few years.
6. What were the best 3 Cassies goals scored so far?
My personal favourite has to be Andy Walker's header from Justin Parr's cross against Radcliffe away in the first season. It may not have been a long range or solo effort but it seems to stick in my mind as the perfect team goal. We looked like pro's that day. Second best is Baz's volley from the edge of the box against Bury GSOB. I still have doubts as to whether he intended it to go exactly where it did but i will give him the benefit of the doubt. Third best has to be Matt Valentine's free kick from his own half. Okay, he had the wind and there was a stand in keeper but the fact that he announced that he was gonna shoot and then actually score takes some doing. Lloydy's against Broughton this year was also a classic.
7. Which 3 Cassies players would you like to share a shower with?
Our Chris, Andy Walker and Michael Lloyd - coz i've seen them naked at some stage in my life before. I've seen Lloydy naked more times than I wish to remember.
8. What is your favourite away ground?
Bury Amateurs away - its a beautiful setting by the pond in the park which makes tactics easy if you're winning.
9. What is your least favourite ground?
Oldham away - it's a dreadful pitch that isn't rectangular, we often struggle there and its a bitch to find.
10. What is the most memorable Cassies game you played in?
Chaddertonians at home in the first season. We were 2-0 down with 20 to go. Chris Hames pulled one back with a right foot volley, before Nij equalised with a minute to go. Before the ref could call an end to proceedings Dan Richards slotted in the winner to cap a memorable win. Winning away at Lymm in the second season was also nice. We had a decimated squad and a couple of ringers (Jimmy). Gry played up front injured and we somehow won 3-2.
11. Which retired player would you sign?
Lee Sharpe - he still plays in the Masters tournament so fitness would not be an issue. His pace and passing accuracy would be an asset to the team, not to mention his enthuasiasm and love for the game.
12. Which Premiership side would you liken Cassies to?
I have to agree with Lloydy. We are too much like Liverpool at the moment. The nearly men. Always there or thereabouts but never achieving what we should and we have a Crouchy on the books who never gets a game - Bay.
13. What is your death row meal?
Some kind of Chinese - probably lemon chicken.
14. What is your death row film?
25th Hour
15. Who would you have play you in a Biopic of your life?
Either Eddie Murphy or Whoopie Goldburg
16. If you were Prime Minister and could ban one thing what would it be?
Tuna
17. If you could have a burger from anywhere in the world where would you get it from?
There are some great candidates but Reuters don't half do a cracker for the money.
18. Who is the hardest tackler in the team?
Paul "Mozza" Morris - i would hate to be in a 50:50 with that guy.
19. What was your earliest football memory (playing)?
Running down Scarisbrick New Road on my way to Trinity's first training session as an 8 year old. Perhaps that was the same day Lloydy and Walshee put pen to paper on a deal at the Meols Cop outfit.
20. Which song would you have playing when there were highlights of you Cassies career?
"I shot the sheriff" - Bob Marley
