11th February, 2008

Today the bridge were playing away from the hill again and after last weeks disappointing 2-2 draw with Hellenic ending the 10 match wining streak Westpark stood in the bridges way.
The game started off with Longbridge on the front foot passing the ball well especially down the left with Evans and Joe linking up well as the half went on the bridge were pressing for the break through a few half chances came our way through Kane and a few long range efforts from Joynesy before one of Westparks forwards broke past Mike leaving only Tommo in his way after fired a shot from the edge of the area it was tipped over the bar, brilliant save. From the resulting corner Tommo could only punch the ball clear and it landed on the corner of the 18 yard box to Westparks left midfielder who volleyed the ball back across goal it swerved back in and landed perfectly in the top corner, it was unstoppable. The bridge were not phased by this and they carried on playing the sublime football as they were prior to the goal passing the ball all over the park and it wasn't long until they equalised passing the ball down the left hand side seen Joe receive the ball on the left of the area he drilled in a cross and the in form Tom Carr was there to slot the ball past the keeper 1-1 shortly after the bridge were then in front, top goal scorer Kane picked the ball up on the half way line running from there towards goal he was suddenly surrounded by 3 Westpark defenders after a heavy touch on the edge of the area it looked as if he had over ran the ball but just getting a toe to the ball before the keeper could gather seen it bobble up an hit the keeper on the back before crossing the line number 32 for the season for Kane. Half time score was 2-1 to the bridge.
As the second half started Longbridge were straight in there this time from the right hand side Oli running at the defence before sliding the ball across to the back post for Joe to slot past the keeper 3-1 now to the bridge with in a couple of minutes of the re-start then. Moments after Westpark were on the attached the forced the ball into the box and from there it was a scramble first with Tommo making a couple of reaction saves then a some rash attempts to clear the ball seen it still bouncing about before it was meet with some force from a Westpark player but the ball came back of the bar but it still wasn't cleared and was finally put into Longbridges net to leave the score 3-2 before Longbridge were forced into a substitute with Left back Evans going off injured off pulling his hamstring. On came Rusty this meant a change in formation Joe dropped to left back and Oli came over to play left midfield which meant rusty playing on the right. Within a few minutes of his arrival Oli carried the ball down the left hand side crossing it into the box seen Rusty dart to the front post after trying to control the ball it bounced up onto his hand he turned and shot the net rippled but the goal didn't stand moments later the ball was pumped forward Tom did well to hold the ball up then he laid it off to Joynesy bursting through one on one with keeper about 12 yards out he blasted the ball against the bar the score still stood 3-2 it wouldnâïÿýïÿýt stay that way for long Oli again the provider taking the ball down the left and past the right back he slid the ball across the 6 yard box for Rusty to tap in at the back post 4-2 to the bridge. With 20 minutes of the game left Longbridge thought they had the game won the clock was ticking down and with 10 minutes left Longbridge pilled pressure on themselves by making an unnecessary substitution off came Tom and on came Ash to play in midfield that left Kane isolated up front against four defenders therefore the ball was constantly under pressure for the last ten minutes. Just half through them ten Westpark got a goal back when there left midfielder skipped past Lee and carried the ball into the box a powerful bending shot saw it come back of the inside of the post and across into the net 4-3 with 5 minutes left. You could see Longbridge had lost the nerve and with so much pressure coming on to them they couldn't hold out in the last minute of the game the ball was rolled into feet of Westparks left midfielder with his back to Lee and to goal he hit the ball first time it took Tommo by surprised and the ball hit the net to make the scored 4-4 as Longbridge kicked off the final whistle went for full time.
A disappointing end to a game were the bridge played well the dominated for long periods of the game scoring 4 goals from 4 different scores Alex & Joynes dominate in the middle and Joe Oli Especially creating a number of chances, punished for bad decisions and just couldn't hold out under the pressure with no outlet up front. With a game Sunday against bottom the league but one its not going to be easy and its must win. One thing we do have in our favour is that the bridge are back on the hill this week, there can be no more slip ups as if there are we can then get caught for second also Harbourne have a tough game this week there is a chance for us to gain ground on there lead we can an will still win this league there are a lot of games and points still up for grabs. Final in a week.
COME ON THE BRIDGE!
