on a cold, wet, blustery day, two teams met at trawden rec to battle it out, the vets with an average age of 72 & the young pretenders, just out of nappy's. from the off you could see the yp's were always going to have that extra yard and that fitness might tell and it wasn't long before joe got them off the mark with a shot from outside the area that beat the keeper into the bottom corner. the vets didn't let there heads drop & created chances, one of these was seized upon by chris hannah who to the amazement of everybody watching glanced a header past the flayling keeper, he should have had another when through one on one with the keeper but screwed it wide. this shocked the yp's into action & a speculative shot cum cross from tank sailed into the net 2-1. rushy was adjudged to have handled the ball, penalty, up stepped cal, brilliant save from the keeper but oh no roger encroached slightly!!! retake, no mistake this time 3-1. subs were made at half time taddy going off having covered all of the centre circle in the first half, chris went off with frost bite, the yp's brought on fresh legs and there fitness began to tell, cal added another, seb nodded one in after rising like a salmon, dicko's free kick beat maggots in the air(who could have done with a step ladder) the final score 8-1, no disgrace to the vets who put up a sterling performance. once thawd out it was back to the sun for a question of sport, could the vets get revenge, unfortunatly not the yp's ran out winners again by a very close margin, modern day footballers letting the vets down, a good day was enjoyed by everyone, thanks to wayne at the sun for providing the food, maybe next year vets?
