Rumsby Cup defeat for battling Greyhound

14th January, 2008

Greyhound bowed out of the Rumsby cup to Diamond United. In a game that Greyhound re-found their form, Diamond took a 2 goal lead after being put under constant pressure. 2 silly mistakes gave Diamond the opportunities and they took them with ease. More excellent football from Greyhound, with newly appointed captain Mick Finn (pictured) and Aaron Addison very prominant, eventually led to Colin Insley finishing well for his first goal for the club. After half time the pattern never changed, but chances had come and gone. Totally against the run of play Diamond scored again to make it 3-1. The outstanding Finn then smashed home a free kick from 20 yards to put Greyhound back in the hunt. Greyhound produced wave after wave of attacks, but could not find the goal that their football deserved.
At least the standard of football produced was a lot more like they are capable of doing. Mick Finn deservedly was named man of the match, with the excellent Joe Mackey not far behind.
