Digica were out to prove a point this weekend as they faced their nemesis and bogey team Carlton Catholics, watched by the careful eye of Digidog. Some scouting earlier in the week discovered that the Catholics A team had a game so their reserves would actually be their reserves, giving the Digiminen a supreme opportunity to once and for all end this 20 year curse. Digica rolled up with a bare minimum of 12, with Gaffa French and Wadlow away and Dominant but daft centre back Burden away for a spa treatment the back four had to remain uninjured. The General was alos out along with shab (fitness), Gary (toe), Potter (knee) and Emmo (Gay retreat), but Digica still had a much capable side out, with Southern fairy Savage still yet to concede from open play at the heart of defence, a stat that has since much upset Burden causing tension among the ranks.
Digica got off to a strong start and pounded Carlton for the first 30 minutes. Unable to break their back line, and their linesman, who definitely was not cheating!! And definitely should not have had an orange shirt on as well with his extremely fair and just decision making, Digicas defence remained strong throughout. The breakthrough finally came on the 40 minute mark. Booth, in his penultimate game, made a dashing run across the box only to be disgustingly hacked to the floor (he definitely did not dive) and Averley sent the free kick in at 100 mph to nestle in the top corner, to the disgust of the Carlton keeper who demanded to know where his wall was?? But as Savage commented, a brick wall would not have stopped that!!
1-0 up and Carlton took the centre kick, knocking the ball back to the defence, who danced around the ball before Jacko stormed his way through and knocked in the second, 20 seconds after the first. The whistle blew and the Digimen and Digidog were a happy camp at half time.
The second half commenced and it was not long before Digica were 3-0 up. A storming run by Jacko and a nicely waited cross found Booth at the back post to slot home a deserved third. Carltons heads began to drop and their linesmen definitely didn’t start to cheat even more. No matter, digicas fourth, fifth and sixth were to follow shortly. Digicas fourth was possibly the best of the day, a goal made from the back. Allan knocked a ball in to Booth who headed it down to Gord, then placing the ball through the back four for Tivey to attach on to before lobbing the keeper. Substitute Aldread came on and instantly curled a short in to the top corner before Tivey finished off the route diverting Booths (who definitely did not handball it) cross into the back of the net for six.
After a few threats from the linesman, who promised us that with him laying Carlton will definably beat the digimen, the ref blew and Digica remained top of the league.
Next week APB or ABP, cant remember. a top of the table clash that could prove a real test to Digicas title challenge. With a full team back the Gaffa has a selection problem on his hands, but this could prove to be a good problem, as Digica look to secure their 8th successive win of the season.
