Captains log, Stardate 28.10.2007
Digica enter new realms in the world of Sunday football with their 100% league record and five match winning streak. Things seem strangely quiet in both ranks before kick off with Mother Nature's hearty breath licking around the pitch and the hardy Digica fan club. Forum are struggling for numbers with no subs, but what is this, they seem to have acquired a twelfth man in the form of the referee, who is looking more and more familiar... could it be their manager?
Digica ring the changes with a welcome return of the leggy duo that is Atherley and Jackson, also cider loving ODea is back from his Sunday driving escapades. The back four sees French and Chopper Martin calling the shots, with Zola Wadlow on duty at right back. Aldread and Macher..errr McKay are the midfield Dynamos, with Tivey and Marshall, the tag team champs, up front. Captain cool, Bowler casts his dynamic gaze from between the sticks.
Both teams are off to a tentative start, but playing the kind of slick, sexy football they have a reputation for. Digica are making good progress on the left with Atherley finding Jackson with some lovely lofted balls, these two seem very close, almost on the same emotional wavelength! But it is Forum 90 who draw first blood, good work from their 5 man midfield applying the pressure with a neat one two and early shot that leaves Dazzy B no chance.
Digica look to up the tempo, and do so in quick response, with a lightning quick raid on the left from Jackson, who finds Tivey to expertly drill the ball into the bottom corner of Forum`s goal.
More exchanges of "proper football" follow from each team on this big pitch at the edge of the Gedling`s ghetto, until Forum`s danger man, Maltby, applies some good footwork on the left and eventually cuts into the 18 yard box. A short inside pass is blocked by the stooping Chopper Martin. But what`s this, their manger... err sorry the referee judges that the flight of the ball has been interfered with by Choppers` third arm (the one on his chest) PENALTY. Up steps the Forum player but Bowler guesses correctly and uses almost Jedi-like power to turn the ball away for a corner, diving low to his left.
Uh oh, there is a storm looming, and not just in the sky, as the Digica midfield and back four make a meal of clearing a relatively simple Forum attack, which leads to lovely whipped cross from the right, met by an un-challenged header. Forum take the lead, followed shortly by a glancing header from a corner as Digica switch off and hand Forum commanding lead of 3-1 going into the halftime team talk.
Questions are being asked all around the ground, could the unbeaten baby blues be crushed by 90? Digica`s official mascot "Bobbie the digidog" has decided to sulk and is eating a piece of old rubber, could this be the end of the winning streak? We shall see...
Second half commences, it looks like the Digimen have actually listened to some wise words at halftime, also a few growls from Bobbie, and take the game directly to Forum with Tivey latching onto to a long ball from deep and cleverly conning the Forum keeper into falling over with his "shinshot". 3-2 Game on.
With O`Dea having done a sterling effort down the right flank, and with Forum having no subs, the half man half foghorn Rushby plays his joker, and lets the pitbull that is Booth off his leash to stir up some trouble. Digica have really started to up the pace now with "max power" Mckay`s graft and hassling teamed with Aldread`s wealth of experience and panache. It`s a UFC style choke hold that is being applied here, Marshall up front is dropping in the hole and linking well with the wide men Jackson and Booth, and the back four are really pulling for each other when needed, but a rarely being troubled.
The Blue and whites are at it again after heavy pressure leads to some cobbled defending by the yellow attired Forum, and eventually the ball falls to Atherley`s left foot, which delivers a thunder bolt from 18yards out. GAME TIED 3-3
Heads start to drop in the forum ranks as Rushby decides to heap more pressure on the back four with the fiery pocket rocket Godber coming on for Tivey. Genius tactics again as the front two provided a constant outlet, and sustained pressure leads to another Digica corner. This time the ball is whipped in by Booth and is met by a towering inferno of a header from the Gaffer French thundering into the box like a 747 (his research into anti-gravity seems to be paying off). Crusher Burden will be loving that sort of aerial dominance, if a little envious.
Forum are starting to panic a little now and are throwing everything forward with gay abandon, looking to get back in the game. Time for the third and final change, with the pure silk that is Shab coming on for Alldread. The forum boys seem to be playing with their feet slightly closer together knowing that Shab has entered the arena, and are hoping not to get "megged". Mckay, and Shab are relishing this game now and their confidence shows, both hitting long range efforts, with Shab forcing the Forum keeper to pull off a "one for the cameras" save. Marshall and Godber are tormenting the backs by applying a more delicate approach and again going close on several occasions.
This game is getting stretched now and Bowler is forced to make another amazing save, this time diving to his right and finger tipping the ball past his post from an attack in open play from the 90 boys. Again the Digi back four are working hard with a great goal line clearance from Chopper and some key headers won by Wadlow and French, whilst Atherley is shutting up shop at left back. Mckay and Shab are using the pace of Jackson and Booth with a plum, stroking the ball into their opponent`s danger zones and relieving the pressure. And with that Digica win a corner on the right which is fizzed into the near post. The keeper flaps and Jackson cannot believe his luck claiming a fifth for the Digica massive.
With the game coming to a close and the referee looking to even things up, tempers start to fray a little, and you can forgive anyone expecting to see Danger Dave at the centre of things, because he is! Mckay applies the voice of reason and prevents the human hand grenade from exploding at the last second by re-inserting the pin.
And so the final whistle, the game ends 3-5 in the favour of record breaking F C Digica, who now boast a perfect 6 out of 6.
Shhhhhh... what`s that in the distance, sounds like waves, it`s getting closer... OH MY! IT`S THE MEGA TSUNAMI THAT IS FC DIGICA THREATING TO DESTROY ALL IN ITS PATH!
Scorers: Tivey 2, Dave Atherly 1, Ollie 1, Jacko 1.
Man of the match: Daz. Of course.
A RushRoo production.
