14th October, 2007

The Digeridoo's juggernaut kept on rolling today making it 5 wins from 5 for the baby blues. Todays opposition were no push over since league leaders Caverton Cherry Tree were up against the dynamic digica. 'Eventful' doesn't even come close to describe the action from Highfields from 10.30 onwards, the game had it all, 7 goals, a disallowed goal, 3 red cards, 2 yellow cards and a ref under close scrutiny from the observing official.
Digica were the first to draw blood in this epic battle and took the lead from an early Chris Tivey goal, the striker showing the leathal finishing that saw him 6th top scorer in the league last year. Calverton came back into the game from a low corner 5 minutes later which sneeked in at the near post. Digica responded in true bull dog fashion and it was Tivey's strike partner Marshall who smashed the ball home from a low cross from Digica's firey winger Booth. Further pressure saw a fanstastic break down the right wing from Tivey rewarded with an own goal from the Calverton centre back.
Then.
Flash point.
Moments after a reckless tackle from Booth on the edge of his box another collision occurred near the halfway line. The tackle appeared to be a typical Booth attempt at getting the ball (dirty) which was not received well by the Calverton winger who appeared to head butt Booth ever so slightly (although Booth's reaction would surely have made fellow pansy Dida proud). Rules being rules (especially under the close watch of the league official) the Calverton man was sent off, the shock came first however when the referee flashed the red card for Booth claiming he 'kicked out and reacted'. Booth's mental health, temperament and ability to handle the 'big game' occassion are all clearly in question. The nickname 'danger' has never been so justified.
Not many minutes had passed before the referee's book was out again, this time for a late tackle from Burden which has been dubbed 'the kick heard around the world'. Step aside Ray Finkle. The yellow card was fairly given to the warrior number 5.
10 V 10 seemed to slow the pace of the game somewhat and at 3-1 Digica looked comfortable except for set pieces and this proved to be the achillies heel as the Digimen conceeded just before half time.
3-2 and the scene was set for an alamo type finish. Hope was almost lost when Bowler attempted a Karate Kid style clearance (again potential mental health problems) which was the only glitch in an otherwise man of the match performance tied the game up with 20mins to go.
Instantly the Digimen were back infront thanks to quick thinking from Marshall releasing Jackson down the left wing. Initially the lively winger seemed to have taken it too wide but clearly not as he dispatched his shot with the precision of a vascular surgeon.
Last ditch defending kept the score the same till the final whistle, altougth plenty of defending was required (obviously leading to another yellow card, this time for Byrne) from the bravehearts, Nick Wadlow-Lescott in particular showing his versatility across the backline with a fine performance at centre back.
A hard fought victory which could have gone either way, French will be delighted with this one. Next week, the return of Grosvenor FC who will be looking for revenge.
If you're a betting man however, its clear the smart money in on the Digeridoos.
