30th September, 2007

Billed as a make-or-break fixture for Digica's league progress after a
disappointing cup result last week, a capacity crowd comprising
walking-wounded O'Dea, Razor Ruddock Rushby and Shab and the Shabettes
watched with delight as Digica went about their business with gusto.
After a foray into the back four last week, Gordon "Max Power" McKay
returned to his usual hunting ground in the centre of midfield, and
Bobbles "Crusher" Burden returned to centre back. Also back into the
Digica fold was Alan Martin, and Harry Potter partnered Chris "Two-touch
Top Dog" Tivey up front.
The game was comfortable for the most part and, despite a deluded
Beercalona striker claiming "we're dicking all over them on the floor",
Digica picked up 3 more valuable points. Pitch-side, Kamara was beside himself as the baby blues' attack went about their
business with pesto, breaking club records for the number of shots in a game.
Beercalona scored first after Digica lost possession on the half-way
line, but a Potter soon sorted that with a nicely-taken goal, turning in
Dave Booth's knock-down off Dave Atherly's cross and Digica were flying
again. Dave Atherly soon featured again, coolly dispatching a penno (with a
plum). Tivey then latched onto a through ball, and two-touch woes
forgotten, sent the ball goal-wards, and this was swiftly followed by yet another
goal from footballing wizard Godber from Dave Booth's cross, ensuring
that as half-time approached, the game looked fairly comfortable. Other
action of note in the first half included Burden popping up in the box
to (almost) level the centre-back's scoring challenge at one-all and
McKay turning the power down from 11 to pick out some sweet passes in
the midfield, and the Digica midfield played together like
some sort of well-oiled sweaty 8-legged machine.
Dave Booth's burgeoning mental problems surfaced towards the end of the half, doing a fairly competent imitation of Crusher Burden, and JazzHands Bowler made the resulting free-kick look distinctly average, hanging off the cross bar. Nuff said.
Gaffer rung the changes at half time with Dave Booth taking a breather
(and his medication) and Nick resting his aching hooves to make
way for Nigel and Gary.
The game then swung like one of Dangerous Dave's crosses into the box,
and Digica lost their way a bit, the finely tuned machine sputtered and
stalled, at times playing some good football; at others, showing flashes
of the lack-lustre performance of the previous week. Jacko moonwalked around the keeper for the digimen's fifth, but not before a lapse of defensive concentration let Beercalona in to make it 5-2. Ever with a handy solution up his sleeve, Gaffer re-invented himself as striker and came on to gee up the troops, going about his business with bisto.
All in all, a good result, ensuring that the Digica faithful were
dancing in the streets well into the night as the mighty baby
blues march on (in their pyjamas) with an unprecendented 9 points from 9....
