John has been affiliated with the Hesketh Casuals set up for approximately 40 years. He represented Hesketh Casuals then 2nd team, forming a solid centre back partnership with Steve Porter and the pair set the club record for number of consecutive clean sheets which remains unbroken to this day.
His career highlight includes a 25 yard half volleyed own goal which he claims left the keeper with no chance as it burried into the top corner.
There were twelve years in the middle of his illustrious Cassies years when he played and managed Smedley United, where he also enjoyed success. Playing Saturday and Sunday showed immense dedication to the sport.
Following his retirement at the age of 40 John can be seen regularly on the sidelines cheering on Hesketh Casuals B team on a Saturday. John also contributes to the club's finances by endulging in the odd pint in the club after the game...which is more that can be said for most of the players!
