15th April, 2008Merchant 2 - 3 Spa FC
Spa struck in the 90th minute to steal a late victory at Oliver's Mount. Merchant found themselves behind in the first minute but went onto dominate the first half and levelled after 35 minutes when Nick Sumpton turned his marker and found the bottom corner from just inside the Spa box. The Greens played some of their best football of the season at the start of the second half but contrived to miss chance after chance. Matty Sill capped an impressive performance when he finally put Merchant ahead on the hour. However, the visitors grabbed two late goals to snatch an unlikley victory.
13th April, 2008West Pier Res 2 - 4 Merchant
Merchant got back to winning ways with a fine away victory at West Pier. After dominating the first half, Tom Scales gave Merchant a deserved 40th minute lead with a close range finish after good work from Nicky Sumpton. The hosts levelled shortly after half time but Scales grabbed his second with an effort from 20 yards to restore the Green's advantage. Good approach play by Scales and a delicate back heel from Sumpton set up Jaq Prendergast to slot home a third soon after. Sumpton completed the scoring for Merchant with the goal his performance deserved when he dispossesed the Pier keeper outside the penalty area and found the empty net from a narrow angle. Pier grabbed a consolation late on but the result was never in doubt. Danny Wedge, playing his first game since undergoing knee surgery, Micky Adamson making a rare apperance and Mark Taylor were, along with Sumpton, the star performers.
9th March, 2008Merchant 1 - 2 Castle Tavern
Merchant threw away a first half lead to sink to a home defeat to Castle Tavern. Tom Scales played in Phil Coole who slotted Merchant in front after only fifteen minutes. The Greens created few further opportunities to extent their lead and an inept second half performance was punished by two goals from the visitors in the final quarter of the game.
