BT BADGERS 5 â€' 2 Dooley Athletic

The morning after the night before came round far too quickly for some. Backhouse and Cracknell in no fit state to tie their own laces let alone drive, whilst Stiffy was still in glad rags.

After a very thorough boot check, whistle happy Ref for the day Colin “Capello” Goody got the match underway, with BT Playing in their changed strip of White and Blue due to Dooley’s lack of away kit.

The game started at a quick pace, with both keepers saving from close range. BT forced a few early corners but were unable to capitalise despite dominating.

The 20th minute saw Sean finally turn up and take his place on the bench. He timed his arrival to perfection, not only to avoid linesman duty but to witness Graham “Egg in the Nest” Stiffs right footed volley fly past the keeper after Dooley had failed to clear yet another corner. 1-0

As the half wore on more chances came and went for the home side. Guy could have had a hat-trick before strike partner Rossi Cracknell sprung the offside trap, rounded both defender and keeper before playing Guy in for a tap in. 2-0

BT were cruising, and started trying to get ideas above their station, little flicks and dinks that would normally be kept of the training ground started to make an appearance and before they knew it the score was 2-1. The defence failing to clear after Paul could only parry a long range shot.

HT 2-1

Half time saw the impressive Dave Gosling replaced by Alan Goody, Lee Clarke switching to left back.

BT started the 2nd half strongly, with Ross & Guy again having changes to score. It was left to Greg to show the strikers how it should be done, some neat football on the edge of the area saw Greg work and opening a fire a shot into the bottom left hand corner, leaving the keeper rooted to his spot. 3-1.

BT were flying again, Stiff’s lofted through ball found Cracknell with only the keeper to beat, despite Ross making more of a connection with the ground than the ball, he still managed to nutmeg the keeper before the ball trickled over the line. 4-1

Rossi was then replaced by Sam Goody who had an immediate impact, well on the side netting anyway. He managed 2 shots in as many minutes both chances were carbon copies and both strikes failed to hit the target.
BT’s poor finishing gave Dooley a glimmer of hope and it was long before they capitalised on their poor excuse of an offside trap to make it 4-2.

The next 10 minutes were frantic, both sides having chances but it was left the Alan Backhouse, to leave the centre circle for the first time since half time to lob the keeper form 25 yards. 5-2.

As the game wore on the Dooley defence tired and yet more chances came BT’s way, Sam again failing to find the back of the net.

Final score 5-2

A good performance all round, The BT management team will be pleased with the amount of chances their team created. Great to see 5 different names on the score sheet, a sign that they’re a real threat no matter who has the ball.

Good solid performances from: Dave Gosling, Ash Sadler and Justin Vince.
