Downs Cause Cup Upset

Last Minute Winner sends Downs to Semi's

Epsom Downs gave 110% this weekend as they battled hard to see off Premier opponents Grunwald FC.

Seasoned campaigners Grunwald struggled to gather momentum against an organised and hard working Downs side, who were also missing some key players, including Mike Holland, Sean Bunney and Robert Moggridge.

Epsom took the lead through Darren Chalke who scored his 2nd goal of the season. The youngster has come on in leaps and bounds this year and continues his good run of form.

Grunwald pulled it back to 1-1 but couldn't hold on for Extra Time as Mark Bickell popped up with the winner late on in the game, with a left footed strike into the top corner.

The Downs now face more Prem opposition in either Dee's or Purley in the Semi Finals, as the green grass of Gander Green Lane starts to linger.
