Reading and Leeds Festivals kick-off

Friday 27th August 2010

The Reading and Leeds Festivals, as well as Creamfields, take place this Bank Holiday weekend.

New York band The Walkmen opened Leeds on Friday morning, showcasing three new songs from their forthcoming album ‘Lisbon.’

They were followed by the Mystery Jets, who joked about the flooding on the Reading festival site, a contrast to the sunny weather enjoyed at the Yorkshire venue.

Everything Everything previewed their debut album, ‘Man Alive’, in their set at Leeds – the album is out on Monday.

Another band debuting new songs at Reading and Leeds are The Maccabees.

Guitarist Felix White told NME: “There’s one called ‘Child’ and there’s another one we haven’t got a name for yet, but it’s shaping up as a kind of David Bowie ‘”Heroes”‘-type song.

“Every time we’ve done Reading and Leeds it’s been a benchmark moment.”
