Muse have been asked to write the soundtrack for the upcoming remake of 1981 fantasy classic Clash of the Titans, Matt Bellamy has confirmed.
The film, which stars Liam Neeson and Bond girl Gemma Arterton, is due for release on March 23rd, and Bellamy revealed that it could be the start of a new direction for the band.
“It’s something we’re up for doing – it’s just a case of timing because we’re always on tour,” he said.
“Clash Of The Titans is the first interesting offer we’ve had for film work. We’re definitely interested in writing for films at some point when we get a break from being on the road.”
Staying in the film world and Karen O’s music for Where The Wild Things Are has been ruled out of the running for the Best Original Score category at this year’s Oscars.
The reason has not been officially disclosed, but it is believed the work has been disqualified because of the involvement of composer Carter Burwell, who co-wrote the music.
The rulebook dictates that scores “assembled from the music of more than one composer shall not be eligible.”
Brian Eno’s work on The Lovely Bones has also been ruled out, while Radiohead guitarist Johnny Greenwood fell foul of the rulebook last year for his work on There Will Be Blood.
Finally, The Courtneers have announced details of the first single from their new album, Falcon.
You Overdid It Doll is due for release on Monday 15th February and will be followed by Falcon on the 22nd.
The releases mark the start of what vocalist Liam Fray is hoping will be a landmark 2010.
He said: “We’re about to take off, we’re stretching our wings for pastures new, the time is right.”
