Kasabian launch new England away shirt

Wednesday 10th February 2010

Kasabian unveiled the new England away shirt during a gig in Paris on Monday night.

Footballers are normally chosen to model the kit on its debut, but Umbro wanted to do something different for the new design.

Lead singer Tom Meighan came on stage wearing the shirt before performing ‘Fire’.

Umbro spokesman Trevor Cairns said: “[We] have turned to other Englishmen, who like England, represented the nation abroad”.

Meighan added: “I’m the first person to wear it which is crazy. They said they wanted to take it away from the footballers for once and do something up to date.

“They wanted to combine with rock n roll. They’re two powerful things… I’m honoured to wear it.”

England will wear the kit for the first time during the friendly against Egypt on March 3.

Meanwhile, Ricky Wilson has said work is underway on the Kaiser Chiefs’ new album.

The five-piece have been on a break since their show at the Leeds festival last summer, but are now looking to get back in the studio after growing bored.

Wilson said: “After a couple of months we got bored, then I got really bored, then mind-numbingly bored and that’s when you start thinking about the fact you want to get up and do something again.

“I haven’t felt this creative since we first started.”
