Mumford and Sons to play Glasto

Thursday 18th March

Mumford and Sons will play at this year’s Glastonbury, Michael Eavis has confirmed.

The London-based folk band are a favourite of the festival organiser and will feature on the Park Stage at the event, which takes place between June 25-27th.

When asked what music he is currently listening to, Eavis told Glastonbury FM radio: “A band called Mumford and Sons, you might get fed up with it eventually but I’m still enjoying it.

“They will be playing up in the Park this year, so that’ll be good.”

U2, Muse and Stevie Wonder are headlining the Pyramid Stage at this year’s festival, which will be marking its 40th anniversary.

Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack will join Ash on their forthcoming tour of the UK.

The band are looking to bolster their live sound and Lissack fit the bill, according to frontman Tim Wheeler.

He told BBC 6Music: “I was at home at Christmas and reading about Bloc Party being on hiatus and I knew Russell had been playing our songs before.

“So I thought, this will be interesting. I thought I’d give it a shot and give him a call and he was up for it.”

Lissack will return the three-piece to a four-piece, as they were when guitarist Charlotte Hatherly was a member between the years 1998 and 2006, and Wheeler says it will allow them to bring back some rarely-heard favourites.

“We’ll be playing a bunch of old stuff,” he added.

“There’s some old stuff that we haven’t done for years because it really relies on two guitarists so it’s going to be fun bringing that back into the set.”

Ash’s A-Z series, which sees the band release one song digitally every fortnight, is currently on the letter L: ‘Dionysian Urge’. It will be followed by ‘War With Me’.

Finally, Jack White has revealed that he has recorded a song with Jay-Z.

The White Strips frontman is keeping tight-lipped on when the public will be able to hear it.

He told GQ: “We did a song together a few weeks ago. It was incredible. I played him something that I’ve been kicking around for a while and he immediately came out with words for it. It’s unbelievable sounding.”

White has two other bands – The Dead Weather and The Raconteurs – and in 2008 collaborated with Alicia Keyes on the theme tune for Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace’.

Eavis eyes Snoop Dogg for Glasto

Tuesday 16th March

Snoop Dogg has been approached over appearing at this year’s Glastonbury, organiser Michael Eavis has confirmed.

Eavis’s daughter Emily, who also suggested asking Jay-Z to headline the famous event in 2008, came up with the idea, though nothing is confirmed.

Eavis explained: “She’s a bright girl and she is very keen on Snoop Dogg doing the show, so we want him.”

This year’s event marks the 40th anniversary of the festival and will take place between Friday 25th and Sunday 27th June.

U2, Muse and Stevie Wonder are this year’s headliners.

Liam Gallagher has explained why he did not credit brother Noel in his acceptance speech at last month’s Brit Awards.

Gallagher mentioned everyone else who worked on ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory’ when picking up the Best Album of 30 Years award at the ceremony but not the main songwriter.

He said: “I’m sick of it all being about me and Noel.

“The last couple of months has pretty much been all about me and him so I thought it was only right to mention the other lads who played on the album and the best fans in the world.”

Gallagher threw the award to the crowd at the end of his speech, but insisted that this was not an offensive gesture.

He added: “I thought it was a nice gesture to give this to the fans. Obviously it was misinterpreted as per usual.”

Gallagher is working on solo material at the moment, his first since Oasis split last summer.

Finally, James have revealed details of their new album.

‘The Night Before’, a seven-track mini-album, will be released on April 19th and is their first work since 2008’s ‘Hey Ma’.

The band will begin a UK tour in April and will also feature at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival.

‘The Night Before’s’ tracklisting is:
‘It’s Hot’
‘Crazy’
‘Ten Below’
‘Porcupine’
‘Shine’
‘Dr Hellier’
‘Hero’

Florence and the Machine, Belle & Sebastian and Vampire Weekend have been announced as the headliners at this year’s Latitude festival.

The Suffolk-based event is in its fifth year and will take place between Friday 16th and Sunday 18th July.

Florence will play on the Friday, with Belle & Sebastian on the Saturday and Vampire Weekend rounding things off on the Sunday.

Empire Of The Sun, The Maccabees and Rodrigo Y Gabriela are also playing the festival.

It marks Florence and the Machine’s first headlining slot at a festival and Belle & Sebastian’s return to the live UK arena.

Wayne Coyne is hoping to persuade Justin Timberlake to appear in his new film.

The Flaming Lips frontman is currently working on the follow-up to his 2008 effort ‘Christmas On Mars’, which will be shot with friends and family in Oklahoma City.

However, in an interview with the NME, Coyne said: “I’m going to try to get real actors too.

“I’m in the process of begging Justin Timberlake to be part of it; if I’m lucky I’ll be able to wear him down in another year.”

Musically, The Flaming Lips are preparing for the physical release of their cover of Pink Floyd’s iconic album ‘Dark Side of the Moon’.

It has been available to download since December but will be granted a physical release in May.

Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello has confirmed that he is working on the score for Iron Man 2.

On his Twitter page, Morello, who appeared in the first Iron Man film, wrote: “Is that really me in Iron Man? Of course. Iron Man kicks my ass. I’m working on score for Iron Man 2. Rockin’. Movie is awesome.”

AC/DC have also worked on the musical accompaniment for the film, which will be released in Britain on April 30th.

Pendulum to headline RockNess

Monday 7th March

Pendulum have been added to the list of headliners for this year’s RockNess festival.

The Aussie drum and bass act will take the top slot on the Friday, with Leftfield on the Saturday and The Strokes playing the Sunday.

Festival organiser Jim King said: “This is an important announcement for the festival.

“Pendulum have been a hugely impressive band over the last year, their new album is amazing and looks set to take them even higher.

“There’s now no better reason to get to Loch Ness on the Friday than simply to check out their new live show in the Clash Arena.”

Vampire Weekend, Fatboy Slim, Doves, Friendly Fires and Enter Shikari are also playing at the event, which will be held between Friday 11th and Sunday 13th June at Loch Ness.

My Chemical Romance drummer Bob Bryar has left the group after six years.

The announcement was made on the band’s website via a statement that read: “Hello Friends. Recently it seems as though every time we write to you guys we have bad news, and we apologize for that, but we’ve learned in life you can’t have the sweet without the sour.

“As a band we have been very fortunate over the years that our sweet times have greatly outweighed the sour ones, and a great deal of that is owed to you, the fans.

“Which is why we wanted this news to come from us and not some… gossip site.

“As of four weeks ago, My Chemical Romance and Bob Bryar parted ways.

“This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly.

“We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors and expect you all to do the same.”

Bryar replaced original drummer Matt Pelissier in 2004. It has not been announced who will be stepping in to his place.

Dave Grohl has revealed that the Foo Fighters will start recording their next album in September.

The frontman said his band are starting to write new songs for what will be their seventh studio release.

He said: “Foo Fighters have just started writing and we’re going to start recording in September so life is full of music.”

Grohl’s other band, Them Crooked Vultures, are also set to release new material this year.
