Carling Local - one night of incredible music showcasing the very best talent coming out of Sheffield right now. Saturday 19th April marked the date when local lads Little Man Tate headlined one of the first ever nights at the City's new Carling Academy and with five up and coming acts in support, this promised to be a night not to be missed!
Tearing through classics from their debut 'About What You Know' the band had the 2,000 sell out crowd singing along to every word from the off. 'Man I Hate Your Band' and 'Who Invented These Lists' got things off to a cracking start before back-to-back singles 'European Lover' and 'The Agent' totally nailed it. With new tracks from their forthcoming second album greeted like long lost friends, Little Man Tate could really do no wrong, driving the crowd to fever pitch with 'Sexy In Latin' followed by the anthemic guitar-crunching sounds of new single 'What Your Boyfriend Said'.
An hour was never going to be enough and when the band returned for the encore - a new acoustic version of 'You and Me' - they got a heroes reception. New track 'Young Offenders' paved the way for the infamous 'House Party At Boothy's' before the classic set closer 'Down On Marie' ended things in true chaotic style as the band's 'fifth member' Balko flew into the crowd closely followed by guitarist Maz.
Earlier in the night showcased the next generation of Sheffield music at the venue with incredible sets by local bands The Dodgems, The Wallbirds, Alvarez Kings, The Headliners and Bohemian Mods who all drew packed crowds to check out the up and coming talent on offer.
Also congratulations to Nicola and Kev who got to meet Little Man Tate in their dressing room and check out the soundcheck in the afternoon at the gig. They also got to eat a few fantastic tasting strawberries from the band's rider whilst getting their collection of CD's signed. Rock n' roll!
Watch out for details of our next Carling Local event coming soon.
