A product of Bournemouth's youth setup, Vokes graduated into the first-team in December 2006, scoring four goals in 14 appearances. 2007/08 saw him score 12 goals in 43 games, with his name regularly linked with a host of bigger clubs.
The young striker was snapped up by Wolves in May 2008 for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-year contract. He made his full international debut just days after signing for Wolves, coming on as a substitute in a friendly victory over Iceland.
The 2008/09 season saw Vokes start just four games, but emerge from the bench no less than 32 times. The young Welshman contributed six goals as Wolves returned to the Premier League as champions.
