Marcus Bent

Marcus Bent's well-travelled career took in another destination in January 2006, when he joined Charlton Athletic from Everton for a fee of £2m.

The 27-year-old signed a three and a half year deal at The Valley, admitting that the lure of first-team football took him back down south, following several months out of the reckoning at Everton.

After starting out at Brentford, Bent moved to Crystal Palace during the 1997/98 season and went from there to Port Vale, then on to Sheffield United, where he made his name, scoring 15 goals in 32 games in the 1999/00 season.

His move to Blackburn Rovers probably introduced him to the Barclaycard Premiership too soon, and from there he moved to Ipswich Town, where he started to find his form again in the First Division.

His return to the Barclays Premiership with Everton in the 2004/05 season saw him continue to find his form. He made 42 appearances and scored 7 times, helping the Toffees to the 4th place and the Champions League.

In January 2006, Bent moved on again, joining Charlton Athletic, but he didn't stay long at The Valley and moved to Wigan on a season-long loan in 2007/08.
