In December 2006 Wigan Athletic agreed a deal with Swedish side Helsingborgs to sign central defender Andreas Granqvist on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old, who made his senior debut for Sweden earlier this year, had been linked with a number of clubs around Europe in recent months.

Despite this, he played only once in 2006/07 and will be hoping for more first team opportunites in 07/08, having made his move permanent in June 2007.
