Egyptian striker Amr Zaki shot to fame in the 2006 African Cup Of Nations, scoring the winning goal in the semi-final. He started out with local club Al-Mansoura in 2001, before moving on to ENPPI, where he started to impress, finishing as top scorer in the 2004/05 season.
After the 2006 ACN, he moved to Lokomotiv Moscow, but struggled to settle and failed to make a first-team breakthrough, so he returned to Egypt with Zamalek. In July 2008 he was linked with a move to Wigan Athletic, but this seemed to fall apart after allegations by Zaki that the Zamalek chairman had threatened violence against him if he moved.
However, this was resolved, and Zaki joined Wigan on a season-long loan deal later that month.
