Bobby Zamora

Glenn Hoddle was a well-known admirer of Bobby Zamora long before he eventually signed him for Spurs during the transfer window in July 2003.

Tottenham signed the striker from Brighton for a bargain knocked down price of £1.5 million, and he became Hoddle's second addition to the squad after Portuguese striker Helder Postiga.

Many clubs showed interest in the young star, who arrived at the Withdean Stadium following a £100,000 move from Bristol Rovers in 2000. Since then he went on to attract rave reviews after scoring 63 goals in two seasons - helping the Seagulls win promotion to years running.

His former manager, Micky Adams once said he was a better striker at 19 than Alan Shearer at the same age.

Zamora joined Bristol as a trainee in 1999 and had loan spells with Bath and then Brighton - where he scored six goals in six games before joining the Seagulls permanently in August 2000.

Unfortunately, his career did not take off at White Hart Lane and in January 2004, he left to join West Ham United in the deal which took Jermain Defoe to Spurs.

He had a mixed start to life at Upton Park and came close to moving to Stoke City early on in 2004/05. Luckily for West Ham, he stayed on to score four crucial goals in the play-offs, including the winner against Preston that sent them back into the Barclays Premiership.

He continued this fine form into the 2005/06 season, scoring ten goals in forty-two games. He added eleven goals in 30 starts to his tally in 06/07, but injuries restricted his appearances and goals in 2007/08.

In July 2008 he joined Fulham in a combined deal with Hammers team-mate John Paintsil.
