Chelsea want £22m Jovetic

Chelsea are considering a £22million bid for Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic.

The Serb suffered a serious knee injury last year, but has bounced back to score 23 goals in the last 21 games.

Fiorentina sporting director Vincenzo Guerin said: “Our intention is to rebuild the team around him, but today the world ‘unsellable’ no longer exists – especially if there is an indecent proposal.”

Chelsea rekindle Akinfeev interest

Chelsea are again showing interest in CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev.

The Russia international was on their radar 18 months ago when Petr Cech was struggling to recover his form after fracturing his skull.

They signed teenage Belgian Thibaut Courtois in the summer but experienced 25-year-old Akifeev is back in the reckoning with doubts resurfacing over Cech’s long-term role as No 1.

Sturridge considers Chelsea future

Daniel Sturridge is considering his future at Chelsea as their season lurches deeper into disarray.

The striker, 22, has just over a year left on his contract and is concerned about the club’s decline on and off the pitch.

A pal said: “Daniel will be distraught if Chelsea finish outside the top four — he’s desperate to prove himself at the highest level and that means he wants Champions League football, not Europa League.”

Sir Alex Ferguson will get his own players’ assessment before deciding whether to move for summer target Christian Eriksen.

United will get a first-hand look at the Danish wonderkid when they face Ajax in the Europa League tomorrow night. Ferguson is a big admirer of the playmaker and is considering a swoop at the end of the season.

Eriksen is already one of the most sought-after talents in Europe, but the United manager will get to see how he copes against the Premier League champions in Amsterdam.

Zambia star issues come and get me plea

Zambia striker Emmanuel Mayuka has issued a come-and-get-me plea to the Premier League – with Arsenal, Newcastle and Fulham all monitoring his progress.

The Young Boys hitman played a major part in the Copper Bullets winning the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in their history earlier this month and is seen as one African football’s hottest prospects.

Mayuka, who joined Young Boys from Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2010, is the Swiss side’s top scorer this season having netted six times.

But the 21-year-old now wants to make the move to one of Europe’s top leagues, with the Premier League his preferred destination.
