Michael Ballack could be set for a sensational return to west-London with Queens Park Rangers.
The former Chelsea midfielder is out-of-contract at the end of the season at his current club Bayer Leverkusen and has been told he can leave before the window slams shut on Tuesday if a club makes a formal approach for him.
QPR are likely to be one of the busiest teams over the next few days as new manager Mark Hughes has money to spend in order to preserve their Premier League status. He has already brought in Nedum Onuoha from Manchester City and Tom Taiwo on loan from AC Milan but midfield and striker options are still be purchased by Hughes, who oversaw his injury-hit side’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Arsene Wenger is ready to make a shock bid for Watford’s Adrian Mariappa.
Despite initially insisting he would not make any transfer window signings, Arsenal’s boss is now ready to reinforce his inconsistent defence.
Newcastle have been haggling over a price for 25-year-old Mariappa, who can play either at right-back or centre-back.
Toon chief Alan Pardew has offered £1.5million so far.
While Watford are demanding £4million, they will accept just over £2m.

Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill has confirmed his interest in Bolton striker Kevin Davies.
Wanderers boss Owen Coyle had earlier revealed the Black Cats had made an enquiry over the 34-year-old, whose current contract expires at the end of the season. O’Neill admitted he could firm up his interest during the remaining two days of the winter transfer window after Sunday afternoon’s 1-1 FA Cup fourth round draw with Middlesbrough.
O’Neill said: “I did make an enquiry and Owen would obviously want to try to keep him. I may well follow that up tomorrow morning.”

Everton are increasingly hopeful of clinching a deal for Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic after David Moyes moved to bolster his forward line.
An initial bid was lodged yesterday using the proceeds of Diniyar Bilyaletdinov’s £5million move to Spartak Moscow, but Everton are likely to go to about £6m including add-ons.
Jelavic, 26, has told Rangers’ boss Ally McCoist he wants to move to Goodison Park and solve Moyes’ painstaking search for reinforcements that has seen him check on the likes of Wolves’ Kevin Doyle.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish would take Carlos Tevez on loan – if Manchester City let their rebel star leave before the window shuts.
Dalglish’s club have made a cheeky approach for the Argentinian who could play for them in their push for the top four and both Cup competitions.
Tevez is currently in dispute with City and still pining for a move to AC Milan, but the Italian giants – and all other interested parties – are unwilling to commit to a full-time deal. So Liverpool have joined the queue of interested parties who would take Tevez on loan, paying his £200,000-a-week wages in the process at the cost of around £5million in rent.
