Delph set for Leeds return

19th January 2012

Fabian Delph’s loan return to Leeds has edged a step nearer after Alex McLeish confirmed Villa have now been contacted by the midfielder’s former club.

McLeish intends to speak to Elland Road counterpart and former Villa player Simon Grayson about a temporary switch for the out-of-favour youngster.

Grayson has also confirmed his interest in borrowing Delph, who burst on to the scene at the Yorkshire club before his £6million move to Villa in August 2009.

But the Leeds boss admits there are discussions to be had about what proportion of Delph’s Premier League wages the Championship club can afford to pay.

Arsenal test Newcastle’s resolve over Ba

19th January 2012

Arsene Wenger is reportedly to make an offer for Newcastle United striker Demba Ba following the Magpies capture of Papiss Cisse.

The Gunners boss is ready to offer a club record breaking £18m for the former West Ham man as he looks to bring in effective attacking options to shoulder the North London side’s goal-scoring burden that is at present practically carried solely by captain Robin Van Persie.

Demba Ba has been in stunning form thus far this season, netting 15 Premier League goals for the St James’ Park side and whilst talk of a £10m transfer release clause appear to be unfounded Wenger will look to tempt Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley into selling the 26 year old striker who cost the North-East club nothing.

Nigel de Jong is set to be sold by Manchester City at the end of the season.

The defensive midfielder has refused to sign a new contract and has only 18 months left on his current deal.

De Jong has been offered an increase on his £75,000-a-week deal to £100,000 — but believes he is worth much more.

City are standing firm on their offer and are now open to bids for the 27-year-old Dutch international in May.
