West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has said it will take a “mega bucks” offer from Newcastle to prise England Under-21 star James Tomkins away from Upton Park.
The 22-year-old central defender has had his best season in a claret and blue shirt as West Ham attempt to bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
While Tomkins is regarded as a big part of the club’s future, Allardyce confirmed that there will come a point where the club will have to listen to offers.
Allardyce said: “I was speaking to [co-owner] David Sullivan yesterday and while there might be some interest in James it would have to be mega bucks for us to even consider that.
“Not that we want to, but you never know what’s round the corner and it would be the same with anybody else really.
“We just have to wait and see.”

West Bromwich Albion were today on alert for a possible January transfer scramble for Nikica Jelavic after Roy Hodgson made a personal check on the Rangers striker.
Hodgson was at Celtic Park last night to see the Croatia international in action in the Gers’ 1-0 Old Firm derby defeat.
And Rangers boss Ally McCoist hinted the Glasgow club could consider a January sale of their leading scorer, who has been on the Baggies’ transfer radar for more than two years.
But Albion could face stiff competition if Hodgson chooses to pursue an interest, with QPR boss Neil Warnock armed with a transfer war-chest and reportedly willing to allocate a large chunk of his funds on 26-year-old Jelavic. And the Baggies are unlikely to bid close to the £8-9m asking price Rangers are said to want for the former Rapid Vienna hitman.

Barcelona have made Gareth Bale their No.1 target next summer – but set a £25m price limit.
Coach Pep Guardiola thrashed out a hitlist with director Andoni Zubizarreta for new left-sided players, which also includes Valencia’s Spain international Jordi Alba and AC Milan’s Thiago Silva.
But Bale, 22, is the top priority and it is Guardiola (right) who insisted the Spurs flier is the player he most wants.
Barcelona are also preparing a player plus cash deal with £20m and a range of younger players on offer to Spurs.
