Birmingham make Hutton move

Birmingham are poised to make a £6million move for Tottenham defender Alan Hutton. Hutton, 25, has struggled to command a regular first-team place at White Hart Lane following his £9m move from Rangers back in January 2008. The Scottish international was sent out on loan to Sunderland last season and he has fallen way down the pecking order after Harry Redknapp signed Kyle Walker and Kyle Naughton from Sheffield United last season.

Spurs seek triple swoop

William Gallas is heading for his Spurs medical as Harry Redknapp makes his move for Steven Pienaar and Lassana Diarra. Spurs are expected to offer £6million to Everton for Pienaar and Redknapp believes he can take Real Madrid midfielder Diarra on loan after the Spanish club announced he could leave. Former Arsenal skipper Gallas will have tests at Tottenham on Friday as Redknapp looks to strengthen the Spurs squad after a quiet summer.

Van der Vaart wants United move

Rafael van der Vaart has given Manchester United a boost by admitting they are the only team he could ever see himself leaving Real Madrid for. Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to have made enquiries about the Dutch midfielder, who is one of four Galacticos to have been put up for sale by the Spanish club. Van der Vaart, 27, said: “I could never play for another club in Spain and the truth is that if you are leaving Real Madrid, there is only one club you can join that is not a step down – and that’s Manchester United. “They are a huge club and if the reported interest they have in me turns out to be true, then I would really have to sit down and listen.”
