Palace hunt Wolves loan signing

Crystal Palace boss George Burley is in talks with Wolves to sign striker Sam Vokes on loan. The Welsh youngster could lose his place in Mick McCarthy’s squad with the arrival of record buy Stephen Fletcher from Burnley. Palace want a proven goalscorer and Vokes could be allowed to move in the next 48 hours to get first-team football in the season ahead. Vokes joined Wolves from Bournemouth and McCarthy doesn’t want to lose him permanently.

Villa miss out on McGeady

Aston Villa may be priced out of a move for Aiden McGeady after Spartak Moscow bid £9.5million. The Celtic winger, 24, favours Villa. But his former boss Martin O’Neill risks missing out on one of his top targets as Villa will not offer more than £7.5m.

United offered Rossi return chance

Manchester United could be offered the chance to buy back Giuseppe Rossi as a £12million battle hots up for the Villarreal striker. United sold Rossi to the Spanish club for £6.7m three years ago – but manager Sir Alex Ferguson insisted on a clause being inserted in the deal which gave him first option on buying back the American-born Italy international. And a number of clubs are now eyeing Rossi, 23, with German club Hoffenheim leading the chase.

City spark Bellamy bidding war

Manchester City have blocked Tottenham’s attempt to sign Craig Bellamy on loan. And Spurs now face a fight with new Fulham boss Mark Hughes for the Wales striker. Brian Marwood, City’s Football Administrator, is reluctant to do business with Tottenham, as he sees them as one of his club’s main rivals this season. And he certainly wasn’t interested in a loan move for Bellamy, who cost City £14 million from West Ham only 18 months ago. Hughes was the manager who signed Bellamy then for City and also managed him with Wales and Blackburn.
