Tony Pulis is ready to bring controversial winger Jermaine Pennant back to the Premier League. Stoke boss Pulis is prepared to take a gamble on Pennant, 27, and offer him an escape route from Real Zaragoza. Former Liverpool, Arsenal and Birmingham star Pennant has struggled since his move to Zaragoza last July and fallen out with coach Jose Aurelio Gay. And Pulis is preparing a £1.5m bid to save him from his Spanish nightmare this summer.

Portugal playmaker Danny hopes to prove Chelsea he is still worth a £25million move after recovering from a career-threatening knee injury. The 26-year-old insists he was on the verge of a mega-move to Stamford Bridge before rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee while training with Zenit St Petersburg 10 months ago. Danny is set to play his first competitive match since returning to fitness when Zenit kick off their Russian Premier League season at Krylya Sovetov on Saturday, and expects Chelsea scouts to keep tabs on him.

Manchester United target Igor Akinfeev will be offered a new contract by CSKA Moscow in a bid to ensure they don’t lose him for nothing. The Russia international is seen as a successor to Edwin van der Sar and his current deal with CSKA runs out in December next year. Van der Sar’s decision to pen another one-year deal at Old Trafford means the Barclays Premier League champions can now bide their time when replacing the 39-year-old.
