Ex-Derby loanee joins rivals Leicester

Everton hit man James Vaughan is joining Leicester City’s promotion push – to the fury of Championship rivals Derby County. Vaughan has been cleared to sign for Nigel Pearson’s ambitious outfit on loan, but Nigel Clough’s Rams are furious about missing out on his signature. The Goodison striker was due to rejoin Derby after an injury-hit spell was cut short in the first half of the season, but they found out last night they had lost him. Instead Vaughan is going to the Foxes and will help their bid to make the play-offs, including a controversial clash with their East Midlands neighbours during his spell.

Celtic boss chases Arsenal striker

Celtic boss Tony Mowbray is chasing Arsenal striker Jay Simpson as he looks to add more pace to his team for next season. Mowbray watched Simpson in action for QPR – where he is on loan from the Gunners – and is keen to snap up the speedy attacker in the summer. Simpson was with Mowbray at West Brom last season, only scoring one goal as they battled to beat the drop in the Premier League. However Mowbray thinks the former England youth international is still potentially good enough to be a big hit in the SPL where his side have had mixed success up front.

Spurs bound star gets English lessons

Brazilian whizzkid Sandro Ranieri is preparing himself for his £6milion summer move to Tottenham – by learning English. Sandro, who turns 21 next Monday, was pictured in a Brazilian newspaper reading an English dictionary while on a club flight with Internacionale to Ecuador for a Copa Libertadores game. Internacionale have already held talks with Tottenham and the clubs have agreed a deal for this summer and Sandro says he is determined not to let the language barrier get in the way of being a success at White Hart Lane.

Cole to quit Chelsea for United

Joe Cole will quit Chelsea on a free transfer this summer. He seems almost certain to join title rivals Manchester United after the Stamford Bridge club humiliated him with the offer of a one-year contract and a 40 per cent pay cut. The England midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and had been hoping to sign a long-term deal to stay at Chelsea. He was stunned when chairman Bruce Buck offered a 12-month deal with a one-year option – even though he is still only 28 and regarded as one of the most talented players in the Premier League.
