Sunderland linked with O’Hara move

09th March 2010

A number of papers seem convinced Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is to make a summer swoop for Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara. O’Hara is currently on loan at Portsmouth, but the south coast club’s financial woes will make it difficult for them to complete a permanent deal. The Northern Echo say Bruce sees the 23-year-old as a perfect fit in midfield, but that the Sunderland chief will have to beat back competition from West Ham and Wigan.

Lokomotiv return for Roman

09th March 2010

Lokomotiv Moscow will again try to sign Roman Pavlyuchenko in the summer. They claim Tottenham’s in-form Russia striker is keen to return home. The 28-year-old refuses to discuss his future after a run of six goals in four games, but the Russians are still confident of landing their man. The Moscow club’s president Nikolay Naumov said: ‘We have spoken to Roman about this. He still wants to return to Russia and if he does return, he will only come to our team.’

Birmingham eye Portsmouth goal hero

09th March 2010

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish wants to sign Frederic Piquionne – the Portsmouth striker who ended his FA Cup dream. McLeish will make a second attempt to land the Frenchman in the summer after failing to get him in the last window because Lyon and Pompey cold not agree on ending his season-long loan. Piquionne will quit Fratton Park at the end of the season and is keen to stay in the Premier League – with the French giants also open to a sale after putting him in the shop window this season. McLeish wants to bring in some sensible signings for the next campaign and would find the £3million needed to take on Piquionne on a permanent basis.
