Coventry’s loan move for Jon Stead has been delayed by the Ipswich striker’s pregnant wife. Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman wants Town frontman Stead, 26, to beef up City’s attack. And the former Huddersfield trainee is keen on a move to the Ricoh Arena after losing his first team place at Portman Road. Coventry need Stead to replace Clinton Morrison who is out of contract in the summer and set to leave.

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is preparing to go back for Rangers striker Kris Boyd and Celtic winger Aiden McGeady in the summer. McLeish has already made two unsuccessful attempts to lure Boyd to St Andrew’s but he is a free agent in the summer. Birmingham had an £8m bid for McGeady rejected last month but McLeish will make an improved bid to try and tempt Celtic into selling.

Everton manager David Moyes has been on a personal scouting mission to check out Benfica ace Oscar Cardozo. The Toffees boss used a rare free weekend to make the trip to Portugal. After watching his club’s Europa League opponents Sporting Lisbon in action on Friday, he went to see Cardozo star for Benfica against Belenenses the following day. And the Paraguayan striker, 26, did not disappoint – scoring the game’s only goal.

Stipe Pletikosa is on track to make a summer move to Tottenham Hotspur after being told he does not need more surgery on a knee ligament injury. The Croatia goalkeeper is back in contention to leave Spartak Moscow for north London thanks to Harry Redknapp’s failure to land an alternative in the January transfer window. Spurs failed in deadline-day bids for Portsmouth’s Asmir Begovic, Watford’s Scott Loach and Coventry’s Keiren Westwood. They have offered a trial to Ghana international George Owu but have kept in regular contact with Pletikosa.
