Stoke plan Ruud steal

Tony Pulis is planning an audacious bid to snatch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy from under the nose of Liverpool. The Stoke boss believes he can trump the Reds by offering van Nistelrooy what he wants most of all – a starting place leading up to the World Cup. Pulis can land the Dutch ace on a free from Real Madrid, where he has been relegated to a bit part role. Van Nistelrooy, 33, has been told that he must be playing regularly if he is to make Holland’s squad for the tournament in South Africa this summer. He desperately wants one final fling at the World Cup.

Freddy Adu admits he mulling over a switch to Hull after being told he can leave Portuguese side Belenenses. United States star Adu, 20, who once had a trial at Manchester United, has been allowed out on loan after failing to impress at Benfica. The forward is also being tracked by Greek side Aris Thessalonika, but fellow American Jozy Altidore has been using Twitter to try to persuade the ex-DC United man to move to the KC Stadium. Adu said on his Twitter account:”Hull or Aris? Man, decisions. I have some tough decisions to make.

Everton ready to pounce for Portsmouth loan star

David Moyes is considering a move for Portsmouth’s on-loan striker Frederic Piquionne after confirming he wants Jo out of Goodison Park. Piquionne is one of several Portsmouth players with their futures in doubt and his representatives have contacted Everton to see if they are keen. Everton are open to a loan deal if his current agreement between Lyon and Portsmouth collapses, while Blackburn, Liverpool and Aston Villa are also interested.

Goal hero Jermaine Beckford KO’d Manchester United in what could be his last match for Leeds. The 26-year-old striker is all set for a £2.5m move to Championship pacesetters Newcastle this week. But he did his best to make sure he went out in a blaze of glory – and earned himself a place in FA Cup folklore into the bargain.

Atletico bid to end Bentley’s Spurs nightmare

David Bentley has been offered an escape route from his Spurs nightmare by Atletico Madrid. The former Arsenal and Blackburn midfielder has rarely featured this season and is considering a loan move to La Liga after being told he is surplus to requirements by White Hart Lane boss Harry Redknapp. Bentley, 25, arrived at Tottenham in a £15million deal from Blackburn with a big reputation. He seemed to have cemented his place in Spurs fans hearts when he scored against local rivals Arsenal with a 40-yard dipping volley in October last year.
