Robinho, the most expensive player in English football, has confirmed that he wants to leave Manchester City and blamed Roberto Mancini, and formerly Mark Hughes, for making his time in the Premier League so unhappy. A delegation from Santos, Robinho's former club in Brazil, is due to meet City officials in Manchester this week and several other clubs, led by Benfica, have registered an official interest in the former Real Madrid player. Robinho's advisers have tried to persuade Barcelona to try to arrange a loan deal but the initial talks have not been followed up and the player has now decided that he wants to return to Brazil to rejoin the club where he began his career. "The whole board of directors [at City] has decided that the best thing is to loan me out," Robinho said. "It would be extraordinary to come back to Santos. Playing for Santos would help pave my way to the World Cup. It's my home, where I know everyone."

West Ham are set to end James Beattie's Stoke hell by jumping in with a £3million offer. The Hammers - who narrowly missed out on signing Ruud van Nistelrooy last week - are pulling out all the stops to land a striker. Beattie, 31, had a furious bust-up with boss Tony Pulis after a 2-0 defeat at Arsenal last month. West Ham are desperate to bring a player in with Carlton Cole struggling with a knee injury. New Hammers joint-owner David Gold said: "I'd be hugely disappointed if we did not bring in a striker before the window closes.

Preston hope to complete the loan signing of striker Danny Welbeck from Manchester United. It could set a trend of United's young starlets moving to Deepdale as manager Darren Ferguson aims to utilise his relationship with his father at Old Trafford. North End will follow up their move for Welbeck by swooping for midfielder Paul Coutts from Peterborough.

Dynamo Moscow want to sign Yossi Benayoun from Liverpool and are prepared to offer £7million for the Israel midfielder. Rafa Benitez would take some convincing to part with one of his favourite performers but the offer is well timed for cash-strapped Liverpool. Benayoun signed a new deal in the summer but Dynamo will offer him a four-year deal worth £75,000 a week, with the tax rate significantly lower than in Britain.

David Moyes has confirmed he will try to sign Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar if he becomes available. The Everton admitted he is keen to bring in another forward with doubts continuing over the fitness of Yakubu, and Brazilian Jo now departed after being sent back in shame to Manchester City. Huntelaar has found himself out in the cold at AC Milan after moving to Italy from Real Madrid in the summer, and he is keen to go out on loan for the second half of the season in a bid to revive his World Cup hopes with Holland.
