FOOTBALL TRANSFER NEWS

City lead Cole race

Manchester City have reportedly emerged as favourites to sign Joe Cole. The England international's current contract at Chelsea is due to expire in the summer and he has still not put pen to paper on a new deal. Manchester United and Tottenham are also said to be interested in the player, who will be available on a free after June 30th. Cole is said to want a pay rise of around £50,000-a-week to bring him in line with some of Chelsea's top earners, but the club only want to give him an extra £20,000-a-week.

Robinho to stay, says Mancini

Roberto Mancini has insisted that Robinho is still a part of his plans at Manchester City. The Brazilian came on for the injured Roque Santa Cruz nine minutes into City's 2-0 defeat at Everton, but was himself substituted on the hour mark. After the match, Mancini said: "Is it the end of the line for Robinho? No. He is a good player. Like everyone in the squad, he needs to work hard and play well. I had [Craig] Bellamy, Benjani [Mwaruwari], [Carlos] Tevez, Robinho - all strikers - so I decided to take one off."

Ruud to shun English return

Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to snub Premier League interest in favour of a move to Galatasaray, according to reports. The Holland international is understood to be on the radars of Tottenham, Liverpool and Stoke, but has admitted that he may opt for the Turkish club, who are managed by his countryman Frank Rijkaard. "Frank called me and asked ‘Do you want to come to Turkey?’ I have to think about it because Galatasaray is a great club with a positive approach." Van Nistelrooy has until Wednesday to come to a decision.
