FOOTBALL TRANSFER NEWS

Harry to break wage structure to land Cole

Harry Redknapp will have to smash the club’s pay structure to lure out-of-contract Joe Cole to Tottenham. Starsport revealed yesterday that Cole’s future at Chelsea is in doubt after talks over a new deal hit the buffers. The England star wants in the region of £130,000 a week to stay at Stamford Bridge, but the club are refusing to budge on their £100,000 offer. And the news has put Redknapp on red alert. The Spurs chief is a big fan of the 28-year-old and was heavily linked with a move for Cole last summer. Increase But the player’s wage demands will prove to be a major stumbling block.

Fellaini form attracts big guns

Chelsea are keen on Everton midfield powerhouse Marouane Fellaini, according to his father. Abdel Latif Fellaini said: "He’s been voted man of the match three times in his last five games. The big clubs see he is doing well, so he is closely followed by Chelsea. Marouane belongs at a really top club and will only get better."

Leeds chase Harewood to replace Beckford

Leeds are preparing a shock swoop for Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood. Boss Simon Grayson has targeted Harewood as a short-term replacement for Jermaine Beckford. Grayson is resigned to losing his star striker but a six-month loan deal for Harewood, 30, depends on Villa paying half his £30,000-a-week wages. But his former club West Ham and Hull are also in the hunt.

Turkish giants chase Neill

Galatasaray have tabled an £800,000 offer for Lucas Neill, the 31-year-old defender who joined Everton on a free transfer less than four months ago. Neill signed for Everton in September having left West Ham United. David Moyes would be disappointed if Neill wanted to leave, having revived the fortunes of a player who was struggling to find an English club willing to sign him. However, the prospect of bringing in such a fee for a player who cost nothing could tempt the Everton manager.
